Q: I have just added a grading, yet it has loads of students in it, that I can't remove?
A: You need to update your software to version 2.1.17. It is changing all the time, and you need to make sure that you have the latest version. Download the latest version from the patches page Back to top
Q: When I open the software, I get this message:
or I used to get this, and now the software closes! What can I do
A: You need to update your software. It is changing all the time, and you need to make sure that you have the latest version. Download the latest version from the patches page Back to top
Q: When I try to print a competition entry form with more than 20 students I get 8 on one sheet, 2 on another, 4 the next etc.
A: This is due to the grouping of the students by the software, and has been fixed if you have downloaded version 2.1.9 since 16th January 2003. Download the latest version from the patches page Back to top
Q: When I try to print a black belt grading form I get the error "Operator/operand type mismatch"
A: This is a known error (thanks Phil) which occurs
when you manually enter the amount of time since the last grading
rather than using the Training period calculator. To get around
this, either use the calculator or upgrade your software to version
2.1.8 - this has been re-released as of 24th September 2002 so if
you downloaded the version before then you will need to do it again.
It is advised that the best way to manage your black belt gradings
is to add them as a normal grading using the grading list which
allows you to then enter the results which will show in the student's
grading history. Back to top
Q: When I do a print preview of the grading certificate it has no text on it and is many pages long - all of them blank. What is happening?
A: You have set your fonts too large on the "Certificate setup" screen. Reduce the size of your fonts until you can see text
Your grading certificates only have a limited amount of space for the student, instructor and examiner's names. If you set the fonts too large for these fields the text will overflow onto the next certificate until the software can fit it into the gap. As it will never do this it will keep creating blank pages. To rectify this simply reduce the size of the fonts and keep increasing them until you reach a happy medium. Back to top
Q: When I start the software I get the error message "Index does not match the table, delete the index and recreate" and I can only cancel or ignore, which hangs my system.
A: Download the Backup and Restore tools update from the patches page
The error message in question also mentions a problem loading one of the members of mainscreen. This is due to a corruption in the database index files which can happen when the system crashes whilst you are running the software. To rectify it the tables need to be reindexed. Version 1.1 of the Backup and Restore facility has an extra button added to it for this purpose. Download this patch, make sure that you don't have the school management software open, run the backups file "backups.exe" or use the shortcut in your start menu and press the "reindex" button. This should take less than a minute. Any subsequent tools like this will be added to the Backups and Restore facility. Back to top
Q: When I print out a form, especially the licence forms and sometimes the grading list forms, I get the first 14 (or 19) records on the first page and record 15 (or 20) is stranded on its own on the next page!
A: Download the licence form pack from the Forms page
This problem has now been successfully resolved and is available
now. This can also allow you to print forms which you previously needed
as print-safe as regular versions. Back to top
Q: Update Version: When I start the software for the first time I am asked to locate the TAGB.mdb database file, which I do, but then I receive this message box: "You have failed to connect to the Tagb Database. Do you wish to try to connect to the Tagb.mdb file again?". I choose yes and find the database again, but I get the error once more. When I choose cancel I am told to "Please contact your supplier for technical support".
A: Create a DSN called "MS Access Database"
Your computer does not have a suitable connection which the software can
use. This can be added very simply by following these instructions:
Press "Start" > "Settings" > "Control Panel".
Within the control panel there will be an icon/entry called "ODBC
(32 bit)" or a variation on "ODBC" (Win 2000 users go into
"administrative tools" then look for "Data sources (ODBC)"
). Welcome to the ODBC data source administrator! Press the "Add"
button. You are prompted to select a driver for the new data source, look
for "Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)" and select it. Press "Finish".
You now need to give the Data Source Name a name. Enter this for the name:
"MS Access Database" and press "OK". Close all the
control panel windows and restart your software. This should fix the problem.

Q: I have installed the software and it runs OK, but I don't have a close or exit button and it looks like some of the screen has been cut off!
A: Your screen resolution is set to 640x480. The minimum
screen resolution is 800x600. To change your screen resolution follow
these instructions:
Minimise any open windows so that you can see your desktop. Using your
mouse right click on an empty part of the screen. A menu will appear.
Select "Properties". This is the Display properties of your
computer (you can change your screen saver and background from here as
well). Click on the "Settings" tab. There is a slider for the
"Screen Area" under which your screen resolution is listed (it
should say 640x480). Move the slider until it says "800x600".
Press "Apply" and agree to change the resolution by following
the on-screen steps. You should now be able to view all of the Software
screen. Back to top
Q: I struggle to read the text in the text boxes and drop down menus in the software. I don't have this problem with anything else.
A: Your computer needs to display windows standard High Colour.
The School Management Software is a rich colour application designed for
screens showing more than 256 colours. Without this the definition of
the text is not clear enough due to the "dithering" of colours
to attempt to match the rich colour with a combination of the 256 colours.
This can be changed easily. Minimise any open windows so that you can
see your desktop. Using your mouse right click on an empty part of the
screen. A menu will appear. Select "Properties". This is the
Display properties of your computer (you can change your screen saver
and background from here as well). Click on the "Settings" tab.
Change the colour drop down box to "High Colour (16 Bit)" or
the highest setting that you have if this is not visible. Press apply
and follow the on-screen instructions. Back to top
Q: I can't print out some of the forms, or if I do the form is not complete.
A: Update your printer driver. Software for printers is always being updated, and usually it is out of date even when you first purchase the printer, so it is advisable to visit your printer manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers. If this does not enable you to print out the TAGB standard sized forms you can download the "print safe" forms from here. Back to top
Q: When I try to start the software I get this error message "Failed to find configuration file, program will close" and I can go no further.
A: The security configuration file is missing. Reinstall your software from the CD and update any patches that you require. Back to top
Q: Where is the best place to back up my files?
A: Backups can be placed anywhere or on any writeable media (such as CD, floppy disc, Zip disc). It is not advisable to backup the files onto the same drive as the software is installed on in case of hard disc failure. Back to top
Q: I have downloaded patches and I would like to add them to my original CD. Is this possible?
A: Yes. Your installation CD was created with the disc left open, which means that you can still write onto the disc until it runs out of space. You need to ensure that your CD writer software is set to "Close session and leave disc open" and you can add as many patches or files as you like. Back to top
